Mom had some sad news to tell me today. My dog-cousin, Rebel, passed away.
Humans are a lot like dogs. There are good humans, and then there are bad humans. There are good dogs, and then there are bad dogs. The difference is, the only reason why there are bad dogs is because of bad humans. Rebel was a good dog.
My family first met Rebel back when they would put me in the kennel while on a trip. My mom told me she had a great time feeding Rebel my signature food – bacon! She swears that he remembered this. I’m sure he did. Wouldn’t you remember who gave you a little slice of heaven?
I first met Rebel a few years ago when we were visiting his family at Easter. Since I am an only dog, I have a tendency to get really excited whenever I am around other dogs. And I might do something inappropriate, even though I have been spayed and I am female. Rebel put up with me and was still my friend. Plus, we are both part black lab.
Rebel was not just a good dog, he was a great dog and friend.
Here’s one of the last pictures of my dog-cousin. You can tell he was trying his best to keep his family calm.
I’m not going to get into the “dog spelled backwards is god” thing right now. The Bible was written in Hebrew and Aramaic, and their word for god spelled backwards means, well, pretty much nothing. But I do think that God has a place for us dogs after we have been on his earth. After all, if God’s grace saves each and every one of you humans, I think he has a little bit left for us. Cats – that’s a different matter.
Rest in peace, Rebel.
