Finally – Gone for Good

I wrote a couple months ago about our last wild ride in the station wagon. But, what I didn’t tell you is that after that adventure my mom put the wagon in the garage, closed the door and just let it sit there.

It’s kind of like when a great-great-grandma is in the hospital on life-support and the doctors say nothing more can be done. No one wants to pull the plug, so the family just sits there and watches her chest go up and down.

Every now and then my mom would start the wagon and sit in it for a few minutes, listening to the pistons go up and down. Finally, it was time to pull the plug. After all, this wasn’t what God GM intended when the car was made. Mom called the Vehicle Donation Center. I guess that’s like calling the organ donation center. They told her they’d be by to pick up the body car in a couple days, so she moved it to the driveway. That way they could take it away if she wasn’t home.

Well, a couple days went by and that turned into weeks and to make a long story short, my mom got sick and tired of the car leaking oil all over our driveway that had just been coated. What’s more, when her piano students came back-to-back for lessons, it was taking up precious space for the cars to turn around. Her beloved car had now become a constant source of irritation. She finally got the guts to pull the plug, and it wouldn’t die!

All that ended last night. The tow truck showed up and took it to its final resting place:

All that’s left of the Buick Roadmaster Estate Wagon with six-way power leather seats and a Corvette engine is this:

Thank goodness I have no sense of my own mortality. How do you humans manage, knowing that someday you will share the fate of the station wagon?

It’s a dog’s life! I love you!

  1. You know, I was thinking really hard and came to the conclusion that Mike and I really ought to bring Olive up to play with you fairly soon. How do you feel about playing with a three year old?

Are you kidding? I love playing with little kids!!! Plus, my mom left her corrupt but well-paying job at a mortgage banker so she could play with kids for (hopefully) the rest of her life.

I really, really, hope that you can put this together. Let me know if my mom can help in any way – taking a day off from teaching at preschool/piano lessons, sending Olive a pre-visit letter, getting toys/activities just for her, getting you some watermelon beer….whatever!

I have my fingers paws crossed!
